The World Gold Council's China gold market update shows Chinese gold consumption remained resilient in 2026, with H1 jewellery and bullion investment demand up 4% year-on-year to 450 tonnes — above the ten-year average of 428 tonnes. Bar and coin investment underpinned that strength while jewellery demand weakened further. China remained the world's largest source of gold demand in 2025, consuming 792 tonnes — 27% of the global total — yet per-capita consumption of just 0.6g ranked only 14th globally, suggesting substantial demand potential.
