Swiss refiner Valcambi is planning a collaboration with Hong Kong's sole steel producer, Shiu Wing Steel, to develop a gold refining and vaulting facility in the city. The plan surfaced during Financial Secretary Christopher Hui's tour of Ticino refineries this week.
Hui also visited MKS PAMP — which set up its third regional headquarters in Hong Kong last year — and Argor-Heraeus, as the city courts international refiners with promises of policy support.
It's another concrete step in Hong Kong's bid to become Asia's precious metals hub, as the government explores policy support measures to attract international precious metals enterprises to the city.
