The London Bullion Market Association is raising membership fees and adding a way to pay dues two years in advance, as legal bills from the North Mara trial strain its finances.
CEO Ruth Crowell told journalists at the Sorrento conference the group is also assessing new income streams, including charging for use of its Good Delivery List of accredited refiners — a list that futures exchanges including CME's already rely on to decide which metal can be delivered into contracts.
The numbers explain the move: the association held about £1.4 million in reserves at the end of 2025, spent £2.4 million on legal fees last year, and could face roughly £3 million of the claimants' costs if it loses the case.
